KASU’s Jazz Thursday on August 25 features the Jazz and Blues of the legendary one man band, Hairy Larry. The show is at Bella’z and starts at 6:00. I will be inviting guests to perform with me and we also plan on having an Ad Hoc Combo set so bring your instrument if you want to play. It’s going to be a party.
This Saturday, August 27, on Something Blue I will be playing recordings made at last month’s Jazz Thursday featuring the Over The Hill Gang and the Ad Hoc Combo. That’s Something Blue at 10:00 PM on KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming on the internet at kasu.org.
This is the second year I’ve been hosting KASU’s Jazz Thursday and it seems that every month we never fail to make magic. I’ve played at every show with The Little Big Band or The Ad Hoc Combo and my band, The Swing Band Project, has been featured in the past but this is the first time I’ve played Jazz Thursday solo and I’m really looking forward to it. If you haven’t seen me perform around a campfire I guarantee you will be amazed and astounded.
Please come and enjoy the show. Musicians bring your instruments and join the fun.
Thanks,
Hairy Larry
Hi,
Big news on our July 28 show. The featured act will be Gary Gazaway, trumpet; Lisa Ahia, vocals; and Joy Sanford, piano. David Eckert will be on bass. Here's the story.
Craig Baker called me and said that Gary Gazaway had been in touch with him about setting up a gig with New York trumpeter and percussionist, Barry Ries. We set up a special show at Bella'z and it was great, everyone had a good time, and Gary volunteered to do a Jazz Thursday. So we've got a great band for Jazz Thursday, July 28 from 6:00-9:00 at Bella'z Restaurant in Jonesboro.
Gary and I are working on the recordings from the Barry Ries show and I will let you know when they air on Something Blue.
Craig's group, Giant Steps, played for us last May and I am playing recordings from that show this Saturday at 10:00 on Something Blue. I am also playing two tracks played by The Little Big Band Band, my arrangement of "Wave" and Tom O'Conner's arrangement of "Thangs". That's 10:00 pm, July 16, on KASU, 91.9 FM or at http://kasu.org on the internet. The Something Blue website is at http://sbblues.com.
There is an open jam session at Bella'z tomorrow night, July 14 from 7-9. I usually try to set up a rhythm section but I'm blaming the heat. I fell down on my job so The Ad Hoc Combo will be more ad hoc than usual. I will be there and I welcome anyone to come and play.
Thanks,
Hairy Larry
